WWE is deeply saddened that Virgil Runnels, aka “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes — WWE Hall of Famer, three-time NWA Champion and one of the most captivating and charismatic figures in sports entertainment history — passed away today at the age of 69.

Very sad when I was a kid in the mid 70's I used to watch him every Saturday afternoon on Florida championship wrestling with Gordon Solie he was the Florida heavy weight campion Dusty Rhoads and his "bionic elbow"

I used to go to Cobb co. Civic center dam near every weekend and watch him as a kid.

Long before the internet and huge tv promotions, events would sell out at almost any arena, just based on Dusty Rhodes being on the card. He was a huge star before the "superstars" ever existed. Had an enormous following and word of mouth for his matches and personality were legendary.
