Probably never going to happen, but I was curious if there would be any interest in a rifle like this. Something cheaper than the CZ 527, but with similar characteristics. 16-18" threaded barrel. front sight with a detachable receiver rear peep sight (kind of like the negc rear sight for the cz 550 http://www.newenglandcustomgun.com/...and_id=5888&ST=CZ 550 Peep Sight#.VgVVjJeAlME ) finish it up with a carbine stock. The final item would be bore size. .308 vs .311

If you make the bore perfect for .308" bullets, and somebody shoots a standard Wolf or old Soviet-era military surplus 7.62 x 39mm in it with the .311 bullet, what happens?

Does the gun blow up? Does this being a bolt action, and a Ruger (known to be built like a brick outhouse) mean that it will handle the pressure safely?
Will the fat bullet squeeze through the barrel?

Finally, if this is going to have a threaded barrel intended for use with a silencer, what kind of subsonic 7.62 x 39 ammo might be put through it?
Does anybody make subsonic rounds that have both a reduced powder charge AND the fat .311 bullet? Would that get stuck in the barrel, maybe?

I would a 7.62x39 gun that was under 400 bucks.

I would go with .311 bore size. And there would be nothing dangerous about shooting a .311 threw a .308 bore size just less accuracy .

Now with all that said get me one.

I'm not sure Ruger, or any firearm manufacturer, could produce a bolt action rifle that would be able to function as reliably ax the CZ that costs less.

Savage used to make their model 10 Scout in 7.62x39 but like others have said; what's the point? Ammo availability? Would a cheap bolt action be more accurate than an SKS? Especially shooting surplus ammo?
