Rust protectant plus shine?

As long as you wipe it down frequently, you can use just about any gun oil, motor oil, etc. I use a paint brush to apply CLP to the exterior (and internal, too, if I am cleaning). I then just take an old rag and wipe it off. There have never been any issues with any of my firearms. Nothing is going to be something you can just put on after a trip to the range and not have to worry about. It's all bout a quick wipe down to maintain the protection.
