I was a bit cautious about using steel cased ammo in my new Smith & Wesson M&P15, so I fired off an e-mail to the S&W Customer Service Dept to inquire as to their official position on it's use.
Here is their response:
"Steel cases should be fine to run. Over many
thousands of rounds, steel will put a little more wear in the chamber of a gun
as it is a harder metal than brass. Just something to keep in mind."
Thanks,

As I'm looking at it, for a litte bit of practice or some knocking about the woods, it shouldn't cause any excessive wear. For the most part I'll stick to good old fashioned brass cases. I prefer PMC FMJ's for general use and Hornady TAP 75 gr FPD for "social work", but if the price is right I'll do some steel.
