Hey guys, I picked up a Saiga 12 today and this is the first one I have ever had or shot.

Are there any things I need to watch out for?

I shot a few rounds through it before the purchase and it shot well with no issues.

Thanks guys.

These are so cool. You can modify the **** out of them, which makes them even cooler. Or you can leave it alone and be satisfied with just having a cool shotgun.

I know they like heavier loads (>1oz). I don't own one, but it's on my list. Just finished modifying an MKA 1919, and bought a couple of rifles here so I'm a little cash poor.

Enjoy your new toy!

The trigger has to be moved to convert it, look at he trigger on mine in relation to the mag release... IMG_20130322_185429.jpg

If you have any issues shooting low brass you will want to check and see if it has 3 or 4 gas ports and if they are drilled all the way through. You might have to open them up a bit or add a 4th if you only have 3. If you pull the gas plug you can see them.

Another good low brass mod is to replace the gas plug with an aftermarket one. You can check the saiga12.com forum but I think the MD Arms one is the more reliable one.

There are also some bolt polishing mods that you can do that will assist in inserting loaded mags as well as improve reliability.

Moving the trigger set forward where Mr. K intended is a relatively easy job. There are helpful threads and videos available. All of the parts are usually available at Mississipiautoarms.com or carolinashooterssupply.com. Once you get it loaded up with enough US parts you can use the 12 round mags and drums.

They also make a low brace kit u can get from CSS and adjustable gas plugs some can shot cheap Walmart ammo or they also have a auto plug that needs no adjusting I have saiga 12 and love it been 100% reliable whether using cheap ammo or high powered rounds
