Savage 99 restore

Did some digging around and found these these old pivot bases in my box of rings and mounts. Now to score some rings. Not highly desireable but a little unique.

Yes I am lol. I located a set also from a buddy with whom I trade with frequently. I also won a set of older Redfield rings mounts. Ring and the mount are one piece and should go along nicely with my vintage Redfield.

As for the wood it is finished. Still has all of its character marks and open grain. My goal was to fix the crack and refinish it to protect the wood. I used Formbys low gloss and rubbed it down with steel wool so it won’t be as shiny and also removed any streaks or noticeable finish imperfections.

One thing that is cool about some of these old stocks is where you can see the factory cut checkering is not perfect. From my understanding this year was still done by hand with the use of modern tooling/machines. By today’s standards this would be unacceptable.
