I picked up a model 11 Hog Hunter 308 this week from Nonliberal-Love the iron sights. Shoots great, fast handling. I'm going to mount a scope. I already have a Leupold Vari x III with rings that was sitting on a picitinny rail. What sight set up are you guys using? One piece base or two? What brand? Where'd you get it? I'm wondering if a one piece pic rail would block magazine access too much for ease of loading/unloading/cleaning. I like the idea of the rail so I can swap from aimpoint to scope with ease.
Any help or opinions appreciated.
This rig may eventually end up suppressed.

While it's not a hog hunter, I have a Marlin XS7 in .308 with a 20moa rail.
It's a blind mag like the Savage and I have no problems loading or unloading the weapon, and it ejects the spent shells with no problems.
Have the Same rail on a Savage 11 270wsm and it works the same, although it does have the removable mag.

When Savage wakes up and makes a Hog Hunter .308 with a detachable box magazine...... It will be a moot point.

You know, it's fairly easy / inexpensive to convert it to a DBM.
Call Savage and order a DBM "bottom metal" for a .308.
The plastic "bottom metal" runs about $15, metal parts run about $120
Then call Boyd's stocks and get a laminate stock, which run under $100.
With the plastic DBM, stock and mag you're under $200.

Those Boyds stocks are nice.

One piece weaver/picatinny base works just fine, as well as the DNZ one piece mount. I put weaver 2 piece bases on the 308 hog Hunter and installed Leupold see through rings to co witness the iron sights, works great!
