school me on watches

I bought an eco drive many years ago, It looked very nice , but I live a rough life and I beat the hell out of it. I have the gracefulness of a caveman. To this day the watch is still in one piece and runs like a champ. My wife wanted a 5k tag heuer so I bought her one for Christmas. In turn she paid $4200 for a tag for me. That watch has not fared well on my wrist, it's been back for warranty work no less than 3 times in 3 years. It looks great but does not survive being worn by me very well. No more nice watches for me unless I need one for a paper weight.

If you don't want to take the Rolex plunge then I often recommend Hamilton, but be wise on your purchase. I wouldn't go north of $650, otherwise you're at $1k and that's only $5.5k away from a Milgauss GV. You will never lose a penny with a vintage Rolex, just like an air-cooled Porsche. If I had to own just one watch it'd be a 1675 or 16750 Rolex GMT Pepsi, hands down.

I'm not even close to being any kind of watch snob or even that knowledgeable about them but I do know what I like. I've only accumulated 5 watches over the years and I hate watches that need batteries, so my latest purchase was a Seiko Chronograph Solar watch. It runs on pretty much all types of light but it really needs bright light to keep it charged up good. I have another Seiko my grandfather left me that eats batteries at about one a year, an old Bulova he left me that doesn't work, a Timex Expedition Realtree edition that I like a lot but it uses batteries too, and my old standby is an Armitron Tazmanian Devil watch. I had been looking into getting a Citizen Eco-Drive when I found the new Seiko. I got lucky and found it at Robinson's Salvage in Carrollton when my wife had me running her around shopping a couple of weeks ago. It retails for about $375 but I got it for $114, that's twice as much as I've EVER spent on a watch but I'm really liking this Seiko.

Citizens are amazing watches.

I have 3 now.
I love moVado own two but barley wear them

You also have invicta that are nice.

I have a Rolex and a Raymond Weil. They both sit in a safe, never see the light of day. This is what I wear - think I paid $80, Casio Waveceptor Tough Solar G-Shock Model MTG-900. Sync to atomic time every night, solar powered, no fuss, no mess, works all the time. This is my second one in about 20 years. First one I went in a pool with it, even though it's rated 200M water resistant, I found out that's not the same as water tight at 1 meter.

citizens are good, for other good cheaper ones I like fossil, there are also invicta which are pretty popular right now

This thread will become more useful for you if you can narrow it down to a price point. Then it's easier to make recommendations or steer you toward something that fits your taste and style. I'd say $500 <, $1500 <, $5000 < Just making a blanket judgement lol...

Also are you looking for a weekend piece or an everyday piece? Like others have said, they're addicting. I only have one watch but it's only because I can only wear it on the weekends or while on vacation. If I could wear one everyday, I'd have more than one watch.

Watches are a very personal thing, meaning the nicest watch in the world won't have any value to you if you don't like it and enjoy it. What's your style? Dressy, diver, etc? I like divers although mine doesn't truly qualify as one.
