Scope mount; how low is too low

I just upgraded scopes on my Ruger, and I went from 1" tube to 30mm. The objective bell is now close to the barrel, but not touching. I can slip a thick piece of paper between them no problem.

Is that enough clearance, or should I get some taller rings?

As long as its not touching, and you can look through the scope comfortably it should be fine.

If its not touching, you should be good to go.

Not saying yours will but things do move under recoil. If the finish on the bottom of the scope bell gets marred up you’ll know why.

That looks like maybe a .50. I'm not surprised to see all that flex!

Head up is better - If you have to cant your head too much, it is too low.

I shoot with both eyes open, if the scope is too low the can’t distorts my vision. I generally mount everything tall.
