It isn't that simple. We all pay for the idiots that don't wear seatbelts. How many do you think have medical insurance or pay their bill? We all pay for 'ones choice' not to wear a seat belt and incur 100k in medical bills not paid when the belt would have let them leave with a scratch. It is a rare circumstance that NOT wearing a seat belt is better than wearing one. If our society wasn't 'must medically treat regardless to ability to pay' then we wouldn't need many laws meant to protect.

Well I hope you don't drink, smoke, eat fried foods or too much salt/sugar or are the least bit overweight cause I don't want the risk of my insurance going up for your heart disease, clogged arteries or fat a**! And don't get in the water without a floatation device, don't waterski, skydive, go hiking in the woods (could twist your ankle or fall over a cliff!). Don't do any of your own home repairs (you know how many people get injured or die from falling off a stepladder?!) Or anything else that involves any risk for that matter-Please! Oh, and DON'T GET SICK, I'm sick of helping pay for your illness!

see, the cool thing about america is its based on individual freedoms and rights, and the ability to say **** society

by assigning that utilitarian bull**** as a way of thinking, you now have introduced the basis for modern socialism

if someone doesnt wanna wear a seatbelt thats fine, let them pay with their life. if someone wants to smoke, thats fine let them pay with cancer. the problem here is everyone assumes that society has to pay for other peoples "bad choices" so maybe society should just have to choose whats right for everyone, good or bad choices be damned, its what society wants (and if what is playing on TV and the popular train of though being indicative of what society wants, well i dont want much to do with society.........am i anti-social? hell ya cause most people are retarded)

Why don't they make kids on the school bus wear seatbelts? Can someone tell me the answer to that?

Airplanes do NOT have seatbelt sensing capabilities.

I just flew to the west coast and never fastened my seat belt.

Plan was packed, and attendants didn't even do a cursory check at take off and landing.

Not really. I was the chunky guy the seat belt wouldn't fit around. I'd say it was my fault except we had to make a connection on the same airline, different plane, and seat belt fit fine. So if the airline wants to save 79 cents by cutting off 3 inches on seatbelts, who am I to argue with the "smart people."

We flew 4 different planes on the same airline, (maintenance must be a real byetch) and 3 had seatbelts that fit no problem, one didn't. Go figure.
