Actually, Amazon has had a few really great shows. Seems like they just bury them in a mountain of averageness.

It sucked. Coming from someone who has read the History of the Middle Earth volumes backward and forward several times... It sucked big times.
Nothing was said about the creation of Arda, nothing about the great Elf migration, nothing about creation of the Silmarils, Trees of Valinor, or Edain, or coming of Valar, Beren and Luthien, Finrod, Thingol, destruction of Beleriand, Numenor, etc....

I don’t think they have the rights to that material. They only have the appendices in Return of the King. Númenor is in the show tho as ROP takes place in the second age of middle earth.

IIRC from reading Tolkien ages ago:

The one ring was not only created to “rule” the others, but served as an almost indestructible physical place for Sauron’s “spirit”? of malice and hate and power to remain in middle earth if his physical body was destroyed. It corrupted men and dwarves, but failed to get the elves.

Those “under its power” would start with small evils then proceed down the path of pure evil.

It follows the old belief that wizards could put power into physical objects that they could then tap for power later.

The Half-lings seemed more resistant to the evil attached to the ring. But after long intimate exposure even they were effected.

Kind of like super charging your Tesla with a bunch of Megawatts knowing you could call on that extra power in a later race.

Das Nibelungen by Wagner preceded Tolkien. One ring to rule the world.
