Senators Ginn, Staton Kill SB 101 with help from Lt. Gov Cagle

You can tell me its full constitutional carry with no limitations other than the threat clause and ill vehemently oppose it. Do you understand that it says right now that mere simple heresay removes your rights instantly. That is beyond unacceptable.

I understand exactly what you are saying, and I understand your concerns.

Do you understand that the people that are talking to the Senators and Representatives under the gold dome have a certain procedure that must be followed, and that unless it gets out of the committee, then it can not be taken out.

There are "people" under the gold dome that have made it known that the language will go away. The leaders at GCO have told us it will go away.

There are Senators and Representatives that have said it will go away.

This is how bills work. People on both sides throw in "junk language" at the last minute. It happens.

We need every single persons help in getting this bill passed out of committee, so that it can be reworded and made better. That is the simple fact of the matter right now, today.

It would be foolish of us to throw away an entire bill because of one sentence.

I have seen it happen during the last several sessions. We had issues with HB89 and SB308. It happens. It's a fact of life.

Help us get this bill on the floor, please.

Jerry

In such a gun-friendly state, the NRA has recently pursued changes to the state's firearms laws that likely affect small groups of people. For example, one would allow people to hunt with silencers, while another makes clear people in public housing can own guns.

But on March 7, House lawmakers at the urging of a gun owners' group called GeorgiaCarry.Org approved more sweeping legislation.

A few House Republican leaders are snipping at the NRA. On Wednesday, Rep. Alan Powell, R-Hartwell, chairman of the Public Safety Committee, publicly quizzed NRA lobbyist Raymon White on whether his group supported GeorgiaCarry.Org's bill. Powell is a co-sponsor of the GeorgiaCarry.Org legislation.

"Uh, yes. We support —," White said.

"Well, I noticed you all were noticeably absent during all the hours of testimony," Powell responded, adding he was glad both gun groups got on the same side. White tried to explain further.

"We decided to split it up this year. They chose a path and we," answered White, who was then cut off.

Received an email an hour ago from one of our state senators regarding the issue and he simply said "I think the Lt. Governor is holding the bill up". Just figured I would share.

Let's all send mr. Cagle an email explaining our stance on the bill and also remind him of the upcoming elections- respectful of course, but direct

Today the House had a hearing in the Public Safety & Homeland Security Committee @ 3:00 PM for SB 101. The NRA Bill.

SB 101 and HB 512 were combined into SB 101 with changes.

The changes I saw online while listening to the hearing are:
1. Bar carry stays the same as it is now. A Opt-in condition to carry.
2. Place of Worship carry has been changed to a Opt-in condition just like bars.
3. Campus Carry remains like it was written in HB 512.
4. Reciprocity language change that SB 101 had was taken out.
5. Public Housing language in SB 101 was taken out, because it is already covered under Federal law.
6. State Licensing of FFLs was kept.
7. They fixed the "credible threat" language in HB-512 substitute by completely taking that language out.
8. Removed Courthouses from non-prohibited places. They remain off limits, but we keep the ability to carry in Government Buildings that do not have Security inhibiting ingress.

Some other little language changes, but that is all I can remember right now.
