Senators propose 12-cent gas tax increase

EVERYTHING is affected by the price of gas. I firmly believe the recession was exasperated (if not caused) by the 250% increase in gas costs.

It's a double wammy too: Gas costs go up, cost of shipping food and goods go up making them more expensive as well as the consumer has less money to spend on those goods because their gas budget just went up.

No it's not, huge energy cost increases are nothing but good things. We'll stop using so much fossil fuels, the price of consumer goods won't increase, global warming will stop, and liberals will live in a perpetual state of orgasm of their new found utopia.

Or I could be totally off the mark and we'd see massive hyperinflation, a hard market correction, annihilation of the dollar leading to commodities shifting to other currencies, and a time that would make the great depression look good.

to be honest, your logic is broken.
Water costs are going up because during the drought, people used less water... revenue fell. Raise prices.
More people are driving fuel efficient cars, fuel taxes are down... Raise taxes!

If everyone rode a bicycle, there would be a tax on that... You Lord and Master demands his share of your crops...Peasant
You hit the nail on the head, here is an example. http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/12/26/Duped-Electric-Car-Owners-Get-Taxed

You aren't stating the posibilities dramatically enough...But it's exactly what Politicians want, because we need to see how bad we need them.

remove the tax on gas completely and the government no longer finds it to their advantage to allow gas prices to remain stagnant and high due to foreign operating cartels

if anything the cost to produce gas has only gotten cheaper

Gas--maybe
ethanol---doubtful
I don't understand why ethanol is still blended with gasoline.

It sure as hell was when Bush was President. Miss the point much?

As somebody that was heavily invested in Real Estate during the Bush years I respectfully disagree.

The majority of cover stories on the Journal in those years was Real Estate. That is how he was judged weekly.

More backroom deals.

Big money and subsidy in Corn. There's a lot of subsidies in farming. And not all for the greater good....

I'm on my phone or I'd find links. search for retired or voted out senators and congressmen on both sides of the aisle that are now on the board of ethanol companies. Have fun!!!!!

Please don't become involved in economics or economic theory. You'll just end up extremely disappointed. :D
I had a 4.0 in economics.
I'm sure I'd have flunked liberal economics however. Pelosi 2008: Presdient Bush is to blame for high gas prices. Pelosi 2012: Republicans are to blame. http://www.jammiewf.com/2012/pelosi...012-wall-street-to-blame-for-high-gas-prices/
Even WaPo highlights the hypocrisy of liberal 'logic' on the subject. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...on-gas-prices/2012/03/29/gIQAVMHRjS_blog.html
