Seriously, does it make that much of a difference (charging handle)?

The Fortis is a nice unit. I've used it, but not run it side-by-side with the BCM.

I like how the BCM is unobtrusive, but easy to use. The Fortis has more snaggy edges, in appearance, but I ain't run one enough to say if it's an issue or not. Probably not......probably just me over-thinking.

I wouldn't have any qualms about trying the Fortis.

For me, the Small doesn't give me enough purchase to run quickly, especially if you may want to wear gloves at some point.

The Large is too big......catches on stuff.

The Medium is just riiiiiight.........
Agreed. The medium seems to be the perfect size. The small is just too small for quick one handed manipulation. And the large snags more, plus it digs into my chest when slung. I'd recommend the large only for a precision gun with a large optic. The medium just plain works on almost everything.

I'm with ya on the Large for a precision rifle.

Sacrificing the ability to quickly/efficiently clear malfunctions on your own rifle, for continuities sake in the off chance you will be picking up somebodies rifle....seems completely illegitimate to me. As always, YMMV.
I was thinking more about military members that own and train with a personal AR, but will be issued a different weapon.

Never have and been using stock ones since 1979. if it was good enough for the Army, it has always been good enough for me. All this new fancy Mall Ninja crap is only around to steal money from your pockets. you can talk about design, strength, the curvature of the earth or whatever but, I never broke one. there sure are a bunch of good looking, high priced ones though.
You were also trained to perform immediate action differently than can be done with an extended latch, which requires a stronger CH.
