Being a big fan of single shot weapons, here recently I have become intrigued by the shotgun/rifle combo guns. After doing a little research I see there are many options and combinations. Some have interchangeable barrels, some are over/under (which I like), and insert barrels are also available to add a third caliber such as .22...My interest is a survival/hunting/last ditch effort self defense rig...I think I pretty much covered every aspect of a firearm with those interests, besides fun shooting, so I'll add that reason as well. Does anyone have combos and what are your experiences with these? Recommendations? Which ones to stay away from? Any input is appreciated. Pics are always a nice addition. Thanks for any input you may have.

I'm the same a mojo. My first gun was a 22lr/410 over under. I can't count all the great times I had in the woods with that gun. I've often thought of getting another one and came close to doing it a couple of times, but realized it would ultimately be a safe queen because I would almost always reach for something else.

I still remember walking through the woods looking for the perfect Christmas tree and hunting rabbits with my dad.

I've got an old Savage model 24 in .22LR /.410. It seems they were the functional little guns that could but nobody cared a whole lot about them till they quit making them and then they got all nostalgic for them. Heck you could buy a decent bolt action deer rifle for what they cost new I guess because of production costs.
A perfect little small game rig in those calibers. They made them for many years and in lot's of caliber combinations and they are quite collectible.
They can be pretty pricey depending on caliber and condition but they are great little guns.
I was drooling over a .357mag/20ga the other day and the bidding was up over $900
Currently the model 42 is in production but man it's just so fugly. (functional but ugly)
Here's a pic of my ol target of opportunity pot/skillet filler.

Being able to switch calibers at the flip of a switch is definitely where it's at with these. From rodents to wing shooting or a slug for larger stuff instantly

That's a super cool Savage combo.

20 gauge/.357 mag would be an awesomw combo!

I can't help but wonder why these combo guns aren't more popular here in the States. I read somehere the combo guns are highly regarded in Europe. I think they're really cool.

They make them with centerfire rifle cartridges on top and as large as a 12ga on the bottom. For an overall ready to put any kind meat on the table long gun it would be hard to beat that combo. Deer? Kill it. Dove? Kill it. Anything in between? Kill it.

But BHJ is right, the new ones are some of the most butt ass ugly guns out there.

I believe Chiappa makes a "double badger" that is similar and folds in half for easy transport in a backpack or similar. I the list is $320 at Buds gun shop.http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...earms+500097+Double+Badger+OverUnder+22LR.410
Just another option to look into. I haven't owned one so I cant give a review as to function or quality but they are pretty nice looking little rigs. Here's a review of it as a survival tool I found online. http://rockymountainbushcraft.blogspot.com/2014/07/review-chiappa-double-badger-folding-22.html.

The 30-30 over 20 or 12ga is the way I'd go if I got one, but I'm pretty sure they used to make a 308 over 12. That's the one I'd really like.
