Shotguns with "tactical" buckshot, different barrel lengths and options

Remington still makes very good and beautiful rifles. They make some cheap plastic crap too, so they can compete, but they never stopped building the good ones. Just stop looking at the bottom of their line.

These are just a few.

Im not a "rifle guy" so i know very little about quality builds. However I scan forums for opinions and thats one reason i picked up the 700.

Researching more Tikka, Howa and even Ruger seem to get pretty good press. Most of what I see on forums about the 700 are buy the action and build a rifle. I saw a video somewhere where the military was cutting barrels for sniper rifles. If the only part on a Rem thats great is the action then in my case its worthless. Im not popping Big Horns 500 yards+ away. The longest shot ill prodably ever take is 300 yards. I think 200 would be more likely. I want an out of the box accurate rifle for around 1k and Ruger I think has one for 1200 maybe? I think even Rugers low end has gotten great reviews.

Im not knocking Ren in this specific example but, Im just saying that in my perspective, there are alternatives. To imply the 700 is the king of the mountain is saying like saying Glock is. At one time that was true but, times change.

I've given manufactures second chances. Ive had at least one issue with just about every manufacturer.
I think ATM Remington is a shadow of what it was and thats a shame. If I remember right, I think my first shotgun was a Rem 410 pump. My memory fails me though.

I have a 700 BDL like the First horizontal one in the pic with all the rifles. Still looks like day it was purchased in the late 70's. All wood, blued steel and hammer forged barrel. It will take game at 300 every day of the week if you do your part. My father bought a scope that has a adjustable drop turret. It uses different rings you swap out with the corresponding caliber. The are already attached to a ring that you swap out under the turret holder. Kind of neat compared scopes. In stead of a BDC drop reticle already etched in to the glass. It's 1/4 MOA adj. till you get to 100 all the way up to 600 or 800 can't remember right of hand. Upscale scope in it's day. Oh Man do I Love my Remy's. For a 30-06 it's damn accurate, and I mean damn accurate it shoots where the crosshairs are accurate. I tend to be a little off with it cause I know that donkey kick is commin and that mo fo hurts. No other easy way to explain it than PAIN.

I have hundreds of students per year take stock Remington 700’s, with factory barrels, and repeatedly ring a 2MOA steel at 1,000yds after 2 days of training. I personally haven’t seen a bad Rem700 since the late 1990’s.

The US Army’s M24 Sniper rifle uses factory Remington barrels. 24”, 5R rifling, with a 1:11.25” twist.

In their tactical and varmint rifles, I haven’t seen one that wouldn’t shoot sub-MOA since the late 1990’s.

I’ve seen issues here and there with every make and model. Ruger had a recall on their Precision Rifles. Doesn’t mean they’re bad rifles, anything mass produced can have problems. Just pointing out that no company is free from taint when it comes to selling a lemon or two.

All companies have issues but I guess Im trying to say that there are other option than 700 just like there are other options than Glock for Poly guns. Is the 700 at a point where everyone on a competition firing line is shooting it? Or its the go-to gun for every sniper in every well funded military? Or is it replaceable like the 1911, Beretta?

The 700 was never the Sniper rifle in every well-funded military. It’s American-made and wasn’t used much in militaries outside of the US.

I never denied the Rem700 is the only rifle there is, just that it’s a dang good one, no matter what year it was made. I have plenty of students shooting Tikka’s, Savage’s, Ruger’s, etc. They all shoot well, also.

The Remington 700 is probably the most accurate rifle out of the box in the world. Savage is challenging for the title.

I used to work up loads for individual rifles professionally and I can tell you I was always happy when it was a 700. Some of the easiest money I ever made. I have never seen a box stock 700 shooting factory ammo that was not accurate enough to easily take any big game animal at 300 yards. I have seen many box stock 700s that could easily take prairie dogs at 300 yards. I've seen quite a few that could easily take sparrows at 300 yards.

If you know how, you can work up a load for practically any 700 that is .30 caliber or less that will consistently shoot 0.5 MOA groups. Often times smaller.

Would Savage be a cheaper route?

He like shotguns but hates 40

For pure accuracy savage is probably the best deal out there, but they are ugly as hell. Rem makes some beautiful rifles to go with all that accuracy.
Thanks I dont need engraved wood to plink or hunt and as little as I shoot rifles Id like the best bang for the buck. Ive "heard" the out of the box trigger on savage is great. Ill probably look into a 308 version since Im vested in that round. Maybe 6.5 cm if I decide to add yet another caliber to have to buy.
