i have a female friend that isn't comfortable with the full size stock on a shotgun. Any recommendations for a better fit in an over/under in the $1,000 price range?

What does the female friend want to use the shotgun for. Factors are: barrel lengths, chokes, type of stocks, type of sights if any, ALL DEPEND ON PURPOSE....

Home defense in expense Mossberg SA20 = less than 300 at Ga Gun Store

Nice all around type Semi- Beretta AL390 youth = around 800 most stores used

Over/Under in the 1K arena= Ruger, Winchester, Beretta, etc.

She wants an over/under for trap and skeet shooting. She could probably shoot a 20 gauge in addition to a 12 gauge. I thought of stoeger and franchi in her price range, but didn't know what to recommend for improving her fit with her small frame.

The rule of thumb for cutting a stock is finger on the trigger, length to the inside of the bent elbow.

Get a big soft recoil pad

and subtract the thickness from your initial measurement. After cutting the stock mount the recoil pad, wrap the stock with a bunch of masking tape to protect the finish on the stock and grind off the excess with your favorite power tools.

I would recommend a disk sander

There are a lot of factors that are especially important to a good shotgun fit besides just the length of pull. If she is new to shotguns I would have someone who knows what they're doing help get her fitted.
