Should parents be jailed if their children have access to their firearms and use them in a shooting?

Some completely different scenarios there. Driving recklessly, yes. Charge the parents. Drowning? Could be a complete accident. If the child was at fault and did something irresponsible to cause it then yes, charge the parents. Our society is in a complete shambles today because of lack of parenting in my opinion.

What if the kid supplied the drownee with Ron Rico 151 from the parents liquor stash? Is that worthy of a manslaughter charge for dad? I agree on the parenting issue and lack of accountability. But the legal system and lack of tort reform has a large part of the blame as well.

This is why I don't have kids and don't want any.

Not that I think my child would be a hellion, but because of peer influences, the internet and everything that comes with it, the lack of parenting from other kids parents. Some parents are very lax and too easy on kids. I got my ass beat, a lot. I am thankful for it now seeing how some of my generation has turned out is way past disappointing.

When I grew up in the early 90's I had to get permission from dad to even take my red rider outside to shoot coke cans in the back yard.

The 80's and 90's were so much better times.

Worthy of a manslaughter charge for the kid who stole the liquor from the stash. Worthy of a charge of willful negligence for the parent who failed to make it clear to the kid that he would be beaten within an inch of his life if he did something like that.
I knew better growing up. My dad never locked up his guns. They were on a gun rack. He told me at a young age that if I ever touched them when he wasn't present he would "beat hell out of me" and I damn well believed it.

The father of this shooter knew the kid had mental health problems but still bought the 14yr old ammo and a rifle. This kid first threatened a school back in May 2023 and the father bought him a gun after that incident. Absolutely charge the asshole for arming his mentally ill child!

Same here. But those days are gone. If charging the parents for a minors actions becomes the new standard then the jails will be overflowing. I'm sure this will be applied evenly in St. Louis, Chicago, New Orleans, D.C. and Atl everytime a minor is caught after a shooting.
