Should parents be jailed if their children have access to their firearms and use them in a shooting?

This is where I’m at. Morally ethically responsible? Yes 100%. You look out for your kids. Legally responsible? No.

It’s like the rittenhouse ordeal. Would a sane person be out with a rifle during a riot? No. Was it illegal what rittenhouse did? No.

No, but reasonable steps should be taken to secure what is yours.

Loan your car to you buddy that tells you he’s going to take it to the bar, and you know he’s a drinker… you will at least get your ass sued off, probably have criminal charges as well.

No different than if you let your POS kid have total access to YOUR dangerous weapons.

I don’t think anyone, other than the democraps would hold a parent accountable if the kid broke into a safe. Glass gun cabinet on the other hand is not secure.

The teenager will plead insanity and receive treatment instead of going to prison but the father will be found guilty. That would be my wildass guess.

In general, when talking about teenagers, I would say that parents can't really be held responsible for their kids actions.

By the time they hit 14 they are pretty much independent. In medieval times boys this age would be working a farm and girls would be getting married off.

So in 99.999% of the cases I'd say no, you shouldn't charge parents for a kids crime, no matter how bad it was.

The only difference in this particular case is that the father bought his kid a gun AFTER being warned by cops about his threats to shoot up a school. That crosses the line into negligence.

Then we would have to argue what is and isn't secure. A lock is a lock, right? I mean none of us have a lock on our holsters to secure our gun, does that mean if someone wrestles is away and uses it, we are somehow responsible? Can't paint broad strokes as every situation is different.
