Should You Trust A $200 Shotgun For Home Defense? | Charles Daly 301 Review - GunBrand Review

The Firearm Blog recently did a test on two Turkish shoutguns. one auto and one pump. Reeves wanted to see if they would last for 500 rds of mixed buck, bird shot and slugs. Both failed and the test could not be finished, he then tried it with a Mossberg Maverick and the Maverick completed the test.

I’ll have to get the maverick and give it a shot

You beat me to the comment here. I love TFB TV. The Maverick 88 made it all the way through the non stop 500 round burn down. I am a Mossberg owner and I guess fan but I expected the bargain brand Maverick to have some type of failure. Glad it didn't. On the other hand I have a Hatsan Escort Slugger ( only new in box shotgun I ever owned) and a Charles Daily 12 gauge pump that I really wonder about.
First time I tried to shoot the Hatsan I loaded some birdshot in it out at my Mom's house and one of the shells popped back out of the tube and over the shell lifter. That means if you need this shotgun for self protection then you are most likely dead. In fact I had a thread about it with pics the day it happened. All you can do at that point is field strip it to get the live round out from above the lifter. Otherwise it's inoperable. For that reason alone I think Mossberg wins from a design standpoint. The Mossberg shell lifter stays up and out of the way when you load the tube. To ME that's the best way to go.

You see how frustrating these can be even for an adult who is familiar with firearms, now imagine a parent buying one of these for their son or daughter to learn to shoot clay targets.
We see it year after year and season after season

Thanks for posting the video.

Many of these fail to last 500 rounds of light target loads..
