It depends on my opinion. If the gun looks like butt, refinish it! But if you have a rare gun or not sure... ask a local gunsmith. I would want a civil war gun left alone, but I would want a nice refinished gun on something else. So many folks want to refinish guns like a hobby that it’s almost better to leave them unfinished

First pic is a Laurona sidelock which I've had up for sale. The stock isn't as quite as shiny as it appears, has an oil finish actually. The second pic is a Garbi 101, very dark wood
