SIG Echo1

For a begginer thermal for about $1400 it's mind blowing. Some of the comments you read are people who are spending $3000-$8000 on top of the line thermals. I picked up heat signatures from deer in a clear cut early in the morning out to 400 yards, then put my binoculars on them and looked and looked and eventually would see movement to identify the deer. I've never seen so many deer from that stand ever. I used the Sig echo just to see deer from my stand and didn't mount it. I bought it to hunt pigs on our food plots at night after deer season. Our timber lease food plots are not huge. The longest shot is 80-100 yards. The echo 1 at 80-100 yards gives you identification and shot placement no problem. After using it this season I'm amazed. I know if I upgrade to a 60Hz unit for greater distance and resolution I'll be spending over $4000. This unit is great for my hunting property for 80-100 yard shots. I'm not ready to dump a huge sum of money to hunt pigs. It does take a hunt with it to get used to it and know what your looking at. I will post pictures here later today of deer at different distances. I will say if money is no object, get an $7000 unit.

I took pictures of the screen shots on the unit with my iphone.

Thanks, this is real good information. The clarity is not what I hoped it would be but as someone pointed out this is not a $7K unit. I would be interested in a used unit but there is just very few of them out there. I wish I could find someone interested in trading for a nice Harley 1200 Sporty.

I know I could go night vision for less but I see thermal as doing both.

Thank you

It looks even worse because I'm taking a picture of the screen with my iphone. I've had gen 3 night vision and thermal makes it so nothing living will be hard to find.

Thermal does not do both. Thermal is best for locating game. NV is best for shooting them. They work best in tandem but in no way is one a replacement for the other.

Lots of good lower cost options on the market right now. Pulsar and FLIR have both released new units so you can find the discontinued models in the $1,400 - $1,800 range. Or you can get the new FLIR PTS233 for right at $2K, and there are also a couple of new Pulsar models around $2K. Even the ATN Thor HD blows away the Sig Echo, and with a sale and rebate you can get the two lower models for under $2K.

Any love for the armasight Predator 336? it's a sub $2k option. I was looking hard at getting that or one of the pulsars earlier this year.

It's decent, but I'd lean towards the older Pulsar models with the 380 cores because the resolution is slightly better. Or just get one of the new Pulsars or the FLIR PTS233 for a little more. Honestly for just a few hundred more, you're getting much nicer resolutions and feature-sets.

OP Burdy Burdy knows his ****; probably more so than anyone else I've seen on here when it comes to NV/thermal and I second what he said....IMHO.
Thanks, my knock on the unit probably came off snarky, I usually never directly knock something (as price point has its place and I too look for value) but I just remember wanting to see and review this unit, then putting hands on it and being very disappointed. In my opinion you should stay away from inexpensive thermal optics. 2 years down the road, they are outdated and worth a fraction of what you paid. If you go cheap with thermal, my suggestion is to sell after year 1 and repeat. If you get into the higher end stuff, they tend to hold their value (and last) much longer, and obviously the quality is much higher. The quote "Nothing is more expensive than a cheap Mercedes" somewhat applies here. I think you are better off buying a used Gen 3 PVS-14 NV monocular, an IR laser of any type, and a cheap Leupold LTO thermal that you can get for $550. You may be just over or right at your price target and will have a lot more flexibility.
