Since S&W Shields are so cheap right now...

I've been looking at them for a while, but every article I read about the shield in 45 ACP tells of how horrendous the recoil is! Even being a backup gun, truck gun practice is needed so I'm leaning towards others, the Glock 30 being my first choice now. But like you said, they're cheap, and if money and practicing isn't a factor go for it!

I recently purchased a shield 45, and love it. The recoil isn't that bad, its a 45 though not a 9. I just really like a 45 anyways. The grip feels really good in my hand and it carries great. I've ran about 200+ rounds through it without a malfunction. My only complaint is the mag was very stiff when loading at first but is getting better. For the Price you can't go wrong with a 9 or a 45 IMO.

I've been carrying a 9mm shield since they came out, and i was excited to get the .45 version because i also carry a 1911 springfield. The recoil is a little more but i dont think it's as bad as people are saying. I wonder if folks who are used to shooting 9mm are holding the weapon a little loose, which is ok for 9mm but would let the .45 jump alot more than expected? Just a thought.......

Yeah, I'm not super recoil sensitive, shoot a LW Commander and Star PD without problems. Have to find a range with one to rent first, though.
Keep the opinions coming, guys.

Rent? heck for that price you can buy one shoot it, then stipple it and flip it here for tree-fiddy. I keed I keed. I kinda want one too, but just haven't had the desire and the opportunity at the same time.

I've been thinking about one in 45 for a truck gun also. But I wonder about flying shells. And one handed shooting from behind the wheel. I'm considering a Redhawk in 45 colt and 45 acp. I know I can shoot that one handed. Lot more money though.

I just ran about 100 rounds through a Shield .45. Was a pleasure to shoot, recoil was very manageable and this pistol has great combat accuracy. Nice pistol!

Meant just rent at the range to try. Usually just 5 bucks, have to use their ammo also.
