SKS Advice - Take Me To School

No idea why, but suddenly became interested in getting an SKS. Lots of debate about which are more collectible/desirable. I know I want matching numbers, a clean bore and needs to be completely functional as I will shoot it from time to time. I also know I don't want a modded up gun, I'm much more of a vintage guy. So looking for some advice on what I should be looking for and, more importantly, what to stay away from.

Any nice all Chinese is a good start. Get a regular configuration, not a special edition-----Bubba's Friend, John Boy's Companion, etc.

I like the the Norincos. They have chrome lined barrels and are a little lighter than the Type 56 military configuration or Yugoslav.
Paratroopers and Albanians are pretty rare. Russians are nice too, but all more money than a Norinco. It's really hard to go wrong with any SKS.

Check to make sure rifle is empty .

1. Check wood stock to verify no cracks

2. Check bore and metal surfaces for rust and pitting

3. Check that rifle goes click when you pull trigger , disconnect and safety works.

All of the above are a pass then you are good to go. SKS is a tough rifle .

The firing pin channel should be clean. Just buy a punch set and do it.

When I started with SKS's. I was a big customer of Tapco.... Stay away from them... Keep your SKS natural.

If you can get a Norinco with a blade bayonet in really good condition, get it....
