I just sanded down a set of stocks for a S&W K-frame square butt revolver.
I needed a slim pair of grips for women and kids to use.
Now I need to seal the wood, and give it a finish with some shine.
But I don't need to change the color or darken the wood. This wood is very dark-- like a Hershey's milk chocolate bar.
I'd like to have some sheen to it-- gloss or semi-gloss.

And I don't want to buy a pint of the stuff for $20 if I can buy a little bottle or tube for $7 instead.

What do y'all recommend?

A good floor/furniture/car wax will do what you want. It won't be as permanent as poly, but it's right there under the kitchen sink. Wax will provide a very high degree of water resistance.

The reason I mention all types is they all have essentially the same components. The harder the wax, the more the gloss.
