Installing a gas cut off and running until the engine quits after shutting off the fuel will prevent ethanol related problems. But won't fix your current issue.

I pulled the carb off and cleaned it yesterday. Runs like a champ now. I also bought some additive to use on the gas I still have. I'm going non ethanol for all of my equipment from here forward.
Ethanol diluted fuel not only goes stale faster than real gasoline , it also strips scale from lines and tanks that can plug up ypur carb. It also causes rubber parts to swell and cause fuel system problems.
Your quick failure was debris/scale dislodged by the ethanol.
