Got a cookout coming up on Dec.1.
Need some smoking wood.
Anywhere in the metro would work.
Pecan, peach, or Apple would be a bonus.
Prefer not to pay cash (work expense).
Yeah, work sucks when you have to BBQ for your customers, LOL.

On the Athens CL, there's some suppliers of smoking wood (hickory, peach, pecan). I suspect there are some on the Atlanta CL too. Regrettably they mostly want cash.

If you can find a pecan sheller, you can use the shells. They mostly throw them away. If you choose this, I'd try a practice cook because a little goes a long way, and too much will make the meat bitter - but it's a good think to know.

Also, on CL in Atlanta, there's usually some people listing free firewood, you have two weeks so cruise that. You're unlikely to find the fruitwoods, but plain ol' oak makes some mighty fine BBQ. If I was strapped for cash this is where I would start. Maybe you can get lucky and find someone with a down Pecan tree.

BTW keep an eye open for Bradford Pear. It's basically a fruitwood and cooks well.
