Snake Backup Pistol

I use a Heritage .22 with CCI bird shot. At 1st I was using my .38 with CCI bird shot, but for some reason, the plastic part of the unfired shells that remained in the cylinder would move forward and would jam up, and I couldn't turn the cylinder for the next shot without removing the other shells and pushing the plastic back into the brass. Maybe it was just that card of shells, but I stopped using the .38 for that reason. The .22 works well enough anyway.
the problem is the CCI ammo, use Federal birdshot with the crimped brass shell, much better and cheaper than CCI. Academy usually has them, or can order them. This is .22 caliber only.

I have read that the crimped style snakeshot also is supposed to throw a tighter pattern as opposed to the capsule style (CCI) loads due to the capsule having a spin imparted on it by the rifling. I suppose this serves as a reason for shorter barrels consistently patterning tighter at longer ranges than longer barrels with handgun shotshells. Plenty of youtube videos demonstrating this.

I know the CCI I've used have been very effective. You don't have to be on top of them to get the job done. Seems like 7-10' as I recall with a 38 shotshell
