I just walked back into the house after having to bury our family pet. He was a 14-15 year old pot bellied pig named Pink Floyd. Anyone who ever visited the farm probably met him. He was a cantankerous little bastard but loved getting attention and treats from visitors. Tuesday morning, I walked outside to get in the truck before daylight to go to work when I heard him screaming and heard dogs barking. I ran in the house and grabbed a rifle and ran down to investigate. There were 2 pit bull mixes in his pen attacking him. I took out one and the second somehow got over the fence while holding a couple of rounds as well. The past week I've been doctoring the pig to the best of my abilities. called 20+ vets and no one does house calls on large farm animals around here apparently. He suffered both ears torn off completely and his back leg was badly chewed up. I found a vet that agreed to do a telehealth visit and she prescribed pain meds and antibiotics. My wife suggested we call someone to put him down after the first day, I was being optimistic that he would recover. I felt pigs are pretty resilient.
These dogs have been showing up on my game camera all deer season. I found a dead doe on the edge of the field one morning, initially I thought it had been shot and made it off the hunting club next door. I texted one of the guys on the club and asked if someone had shot a doe and lost it. He claimed a member missed one a few days before. I surmised maybe they didn't miss or it was a coyote had taken it down. I also found a dead armadillo the week prior. I now believe it was these dogs. A coyote would have eaten what it has killed. The following night I had two more pitbull mixes show up on game camera, different color from the one that took a couple of bullets. I know I'll get a load of members who will defend the pit bulls. Oh. my lil Chipper or Roxy wouldn't hurt a fly. Yea Bull****! In over 30 years of being a Paramedic I can safely say that every dog attack I've personally been on has been a Pit or Pit mixed.
Burying my pets sucks, burying my pets because Douch bags let their mutts run free really sucks more so.
Now that deer season ended, I guess I'll continue hunting, just not deer. I hate pitbulls
