Is the company paying your relocation costs to California?

Will they cover costs for you to search for a home or apartment?

You will need a 20 to 30 percent boost in salary just to survive.

You can get most of the cost increase on your own just using Google.

Don't forget all of the things we take for granted living in GA. It's all of the little fees, taxes and costs you don't pay now that you will pay in California.

From Zillow: The median list price per square foot in Irvine CA is $417, which is higher than the Los Angeles Metro average of $335. The median price of homes currently listed in Irvine is $769,000 while the median price of homes that sold is $732,750

You'll need more salary to move.

Relocation benefits would apply. The salary already includes a 30% increase, but my boss told me they would likely add another 15% to that. We discussed it for some time, and everyone he knows out there rents. Cali is one of the few places it's cheaper to rent than to buy. And just for the hell of it, I looked at rent in Newport Beach area - it's almost neck and neck with what it would cost to live in Buckhead (for a comparable rental unit).

The killer in it all is the state income tax. Yikes! It's like double what GA's is.
