This class focuses on the use of the shotgun as a personal protection or duty tool. Basic operation, combat loading techniques, ammo exchanges (select slug drills), patterning, and transition to a pistol are covered.

Equipment List:
  • A pump-action or semi-automatic shotgun with a tubular magazine capable of holding at least four rounds in the tube is required. Additionally, the shotgun must be capable of having rounds loaded through the ejection port.
  • A means of carrying spare ammo such as a sidesaddle, butt cuff, belt carrier, etc.
  • 125 rounds of birdshot
  • 20 rounds of buckshot
  • A duty/carry pistol with 50 rounds and all carry gear
  • A means to carry spare shotgun ammo (sidesaddle, butt cuff, belt carriers, etc.).
  • Hearing protection, eye protection and a brimmed hat are also required.
  • Any personal comfort items such as snacks, drinks, chairs, etc.
Students will shoot a qualification course to conclude the class.

Buckshot Recommendation: Federal FliteControl LE reduced recoil buckshot is strongly recommended. Speer and Hornady also produce reduced recoil buckshot with the FliteControl wad. These loads are WELL worth the money. They will give you a much improved pattern and extend the effective distance of your shotgun.

Cost: The cost for this course is $100.00. A spot in the class may be reserved by making a $50.00 deposit (credit card processing fees apply if paying online). The balance is due on the date of the class. There is a $10 range fee payable the day of the class.

Arrangements to pay the deposit via cash, check, money order, or PayPal may be made by contacting the instructor at lee@firstpersonsafety.com.

Weather policy: If the weather is such that it jeopardizes the students' safety, the class will be postponed or delayed as appropriate. Otherwise, the class will go forth as scheduled rain or shine.

Cancellation Policy: The deposit is non-refundable if you choose not to attend the class. If the range were to cancel, full refunds will be made. I reserve the right to cancel the class and grant full refunds if fewer than five students sign up for the class. If I am forced to cancel the class for reasons other than the reasons outlined above, students will have the option of refund of their deposit or attending the course on another date at a reduced fee.

Special note: 12 gauge shotguns are strongly preferred. 20 gauge shotguns may be used, but those using 20 gauge will have to be separated to avoid 12 and 20 gauge ammo being mixed together. Shooters wishing to use any other gauges should consult with the instructor prior to registration.

GA POST certified peace officers will receive POST credit for this class.
