I'm actually not sure. I don't see it stamped on the barrel anywhere. I want to say 1:9 but I can't say for sure.
1-in-9 should be good for bullets up to 68 grains. I'll do some research to see if I can find out for sure what you have. I already have a Weatherby Vanguard .223 with 1-in-12 twist and am limited to 40-50 grain bullets. Ideally I'd like to get a rifle with 1-in-7 twist to handle the 72 grain slugs, although 1-in-9 works, too.

I listed it as a model 12, but upon closer inspection I believe it says model 112.

The older Savage rifles in .223 used 1-in-14 and 1-in-12 twist rates. The newer rifles are between 1-in-7 to 1-in-9. Check out the article. If yours is an older rifle built before 1995 it's possible the barrel has a 1-in-12 twist rate . . .

Thanks, I'll have to look into it further. It doesn't make sense that the twist rate is that slow because it's been stabilizing heavy bullets at several hundred yards.

Perhaps Stevens/Savage customer service would be able to tell you the twist rate if you contact them with your rifle's serial number... Or you can send it to me via PM and I'd be glad to do it for you...
