I already have 40 sw ammo and these Rock Island 10mm 1911 pistols are priced low,, anyone tried ?

My "guess" would be that the recoil spring would need to be changed to cycle the fo'tay reliably. Maybe use one for the .38 Super? ** But a quick google turns up headspacing issues so looks like a "NoGo".

I was wondering the same thing. Given my fondness for the 1911 and the large quantity of 40sw (I really need to sell that Block) ammo I have I've been flirting with the idea of picking one up.
I've watched some videos on the subject but the opinions vary widely.

I wouldn't do it. Had a fool female shooting 9mm in a 40...... :doh:Just because you can, doesn't mean you should...... Now if you changed the barrel to a 40 and the recoil spring, it'd probably work well.

I've never held a 10mm cartridge but assumed it was longer than a 40sw boolet. Maybe not?
Yes, it is. Like 380/9mm, 38/357. With an auto, the only thing holding the round in place is the extractor. Otherwise the 40 would go too far in the barrel for the firing pin to ignite the primer
