Solvent traps

While you're waiting for the solvent to drain out, pop open a beer with one of these cool bottle openers:

I hear those will open beers really fast.

Richard Simmons never announced that he's gay.
And most people who buy "solvent trap" muzzle adapters to put a car oil filter on the end of their guns do not announce that they want an unregistered, untaxed, silencer.

Does the lack of a formal announcement mean that the government can't prove what your intention was?
Did you ever watch a video of an oil filter silencer being used? The feds can examine your computer and/or your ISP's records to show what YouTube videos you clicked on.
They can prove that you read a thread on the internet where people were discussing how to make a suppressors out of oil filters.
They can interview your friends and family. Did you ever SAY that it would be cool to have a silencer for you gun?

Any of that, combined with evidence that you don't actually use a such a contraption for solvent mitigation during gun cleaning at home, would probably be enough to convict you. Even if the oil filters they find you in possession of have never been punctured-- no holes drilled through or shot through the ends.
that said
if i own an oil filter for my truck and have watched a video, can they not claim intent?
buy one if you want, do not drill it out. if you decide you want a suppressor
send off for your stamp, get it back, put the required markings on the solvent trap, and then drill the holes...legal as can be.
people all the time order full auto kits for m16's, they get full auto selectors for glocks. if you dont modify and install, its not a problem..

Is a "lighting link" any more or less a machine gun (being a conversion part intended to convert a semi-auto into a full auto) than a "Drop In Auto Sear"?

If they're the same sort of product, why isn't there a loophole (grandfather clause) to allow for POSSESSION of a very old lighting link, which was never registered as a transferable MG, but which was never actually used in an AR-15? Can somebody possess an unregistered pre-1984 vintage lighting link, if they don't also possess an AR int which it would fit, and have never used that lighting link to "convert" any gun to fire automatically?

never heard of one. but in the case of the auto sear, you need to machine the receiver. in the case of the glock auto selector. you need to finish it before it functions.
just googled the lightning link. looks like there are fewer than 500 registered lighting links. so an unregistered one would be illegal. possessing one would be the same as finding a full auto in grandads attic after he passed. if it was not registered, its illegal and must be destroyed....
