South Carolina

Your vehicle is not considered an extension of your home in SC like it is in GA.

SC vehicle storage guidelines said:
secured in a closed glove compartment, closed console or closed trunk, or in a closed container "secured by an integral fastener and transported in the luggage compartment of the vehicle." The handgun may be loaded. If the person has been issued a concealed weapon permit pursuant to state law, the person also may secure his weapon under a seat in a vehicle, or in any open or closed storage compartment within the vehicle’s passenger compartment, or concealed on or about his person in the vehicle. The 'luggage compartment' means the trunk of a motor vehicle for vehicles that have a trunk; for vehicles which do not have a trunk, ‘luggage compartment’ means the area in which the manufacturer designed that luggage be carried or the area of the motor vehicle in which luggage is customarily carried. In a station wagon, van, hatchback vehicle, truck, or sport utility vehicle, the term ‘luggage compartment’ refers to the area behind the rearmost seat.

SC is a shall inform state. You have to let law enforcement know if you have a gun in the car if you are stopped.

Shall inform only applies to a firearm carried on your person during any interaction where an LEO may lawfully require ID. It does not apply to a firearm stored in a closed compartment of a vehicle. Also, 'no gun' signs only carry the weight of a trespass citation and only if they abide by a rather strict set of guidelines on color, size and height of signage. Hell, the Bluffton DMV has a sign that's not compliant...most aren't.

Yes it does.....if an officer stops you for a routine traffic stop in SC and asks you if there is a gun in the car you have to tell him. (but he has to ask)

Got statute to cite? As far as I know, this is the only relevant statute and it very clearly only applies to someone with a CWP who is currently carrying a weapon on their person.
