Does anyone here has any experience with spray foam insulation? Looking into getting it done but not sure if it's worth the money...

I had it done about three years ago.
Have the kind that completely seals off the attic(most common type of spray foam installation)- no more ventilated and extremely hot space above your house, radiating heat . My utility bills have been Much lower and this has paid for itself already.
House is less drafty and much more comfortable.

Naysayers will say shingle life is shortened, but I've seen at least one of the shingle manufacturers state it would not affect warranty. This has been around for years, just not well publisized.

My son-in-law built a room into his attic and insulated with spray foam doing the whole attic while at it. He has been amazed at how cool the house has stayed this summer with minimum cooling. Says it was well worth it. Shop around for prices. He found a guy who was just getting into it and wanted to get his name out there. I can see how much he ended up paying per sq. ft if you like.

Do either of you have ridge vent? Do you know if having ridge vent would matter in the scope of things? I have conventional insulation and ridge vent up there but it gets so hot up there in the late afternoon you can bake cookies.

Ridge vent gets filled with foam, unless you want to be exceptionally odd and pay more and have less savings and get the ventilated spray foam attic.
Usually they will apply sheet foam on any large openings and cover with the spray, so your ridge vent should not be a problem.
My job was $2600 complete, have what I assume is an average size attic with a 5 or 6 /12 pitch.

My attic was one of the hottest my contractor had ever seen, so there is hope for yours Aimless.

My son is an HVAC professional and he recommends foam insulation. Doesn't hurt the shingles, doesn't add much weight.
It is sprayed over everything to completely seal the attic. Disconnect any whole house fan if you have it, cover it. Just
be sure to hire a quality company. Costs around $2.50 to $3.50 per lineal foot. Also consider foam underneath if you have
a crawl space.
