Hey y’all,
I just picked up a Stevens model 940, and there is a little play in the locking bolt lever to the point where if I don’t consciously check the lever then there’s a chance the recoil will cause the gun to open up immediately following the shot. Not ideal.
I’m planning to replace the locking bolt spring to see if that fixes it, but I’ve never gotten into one of these old Stevens before. Any advice on disassembly/reassembly would be much appreciated.
If there is a thread for this already started somewhere else, please point me in that direction.
Thanks

I just read your post. See if Numerich Gun parts has a replacement lever. Just follow the basic layout look up by manufacturer than buy model number and get as close as you can with that. They carry a lot of older parts some of them are new some of them are old or used rather but you can find a lot of stuff in there. I have found a lot old replacement parts. I am actually waiting on some used triggers to show up eventually. After so much use it is probably worn smack out. It looks like the gun has had heavy wear and a lot of use and maybe a few years without oil but nothing that can't be fixed. If you have the tech abilities to take it down to remove it then inspect it. I am sure the answer will be evident.
