I think you are right. I had a British 303 once until some asshole took it. That would be where I saw it before.

LOL, they're for the SMLE (Short Magazine Lee Enfield) series of rifles. I have 12 of them. Trust me.
Usually means "Short". They were made in different lengths to fit the soldier.
That stands for short. SMLE stock.

Not for the SMLE (No.1 Mk III or whatever) but rather for the No.4 Mk1, 1*, 2, 1/2, 1/3 (or whatever - basically the "No.4" series). The SMLE would have a larger safety groove and a more triangular cutout for the butt plate tang. Also some different cuts underneath the butt plate.
Not a bad find ... you could put these on ebay or whatever - likely $20-$25 each would be a fair price. These appear to be birch, as used on the Savage or Long Branch rifles. Take another look at the "S" you see - if it is a more "squared-off" "S" then that is a Savage stamp.
