Stone cold killer? Blue Heron

This guy in the back yard… about 3 1/2 feet tall.

When I owned a trout farm blue herons and osprey were a huge problem at the farm but also a boom for business if they raided the small, ornamental trout ponds of the wealthy.

It all boiled down to location, location, location. As long as the birds were located somewhere else I was happy.

But, you can tie some absolutely beautiful flies using blue heron feathers.

After reading this thread and going through some of the same issues, I picked up a decoy blue heron to ward off the real bad ones. Crossing my fingers it works.

Looks like one was almost poached but lost a good chunk of his face!!!
