6-7 rd, I'd pick the Sig P938, but it won't fit in my back pocket. So I'd go with the Sig P238. Same bore, but it's a 380. If you could go a little larger, the Kimber Solo. If it has to be a nine, the Colt Defender or Springfield EMP. If larger yet I'm not really a fan, but one of the Glocks come to mind. I carried one for years. If I'd had a choice for what I was carrying, I don't know that I would've picked anything else.

Not sure what you guys don't comprehend about what OP is asking about a DA/SA gun....

....
I’d like a 9mm with the peace of mind from carrying one in the chamber in DA mode with or without a safety and taking care of business in SA mode.

Still looking for a less-than-duty sized, smaller 9 mm in da/sa. 6+1, 7+1 or similar. Any ideas?
Not perfectly in line with what you are looking however, one pistol that you may seriously consider is the APX Carry. While it is striker fired as her sisters (APX Centurion and Full Size) practically it is a DA (long trigger pull). With a trigger pull of about 6lb, is very reliable and consistent. While have always been and and still am a fan of the DA/SA 92 platform, the APX Carry is what I carry daily. And I have a second one that I really enjoy at the range.

The Beretta PX4 Compact almost got a cult status for a while on a major pistol forum. Certainly one to consider. There is a PX4 subcompact also but although smaller not as popular.

A big 10-4 on this. Price has been relatively stable.

I have the compact and the sub-compact. The sub-compact has a different action, and really should be another model number. it doesn't balance nearly as well as the compact,. Unless minimum size is an absolute criteria, I would go with the compact.

I have a compact in 9mm and .40 and have no problem with pants pocket carry. Of course I don't wear skinny jeans either.

What I like is that full size Px4 mags will work in the compact,

A big plus for me is that I've always been a revolver guy, my LGS knew this and suggested I try a Px4. Has the best trigger I've ever seen in a DA/SA gun, very smooth and consistent.

A good thing about the gun is that it is ambidextrous and Beretta makes a lot of reasonably price go fast options for it.

The Rami is a good looker with CZ quality too but I thought those were pushing $1k.

No sir, in most places they're $700 tops for a BD model. Fantastic DA/SA pistol that's the size of a 26 but much purdier. I use the 14rd extended mag and with that mag FEEL is exceptional! I've got the BD (decocker) model now. The one seen in my avatar was the safety model. It got traded away.

You need to shoot the Rami before you buy one. It’s one of those love or hate it guns. I’m a HUGE CZ fan, however I don’t care for the Rami. on the flip side, the P01 to me is the perfect sized/capacity, and after the trip to Cajun it’s not leaving my collection.
