I have a 1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ. The person I got it from has already had some work done to it. (Lifted, bigger tires, bumpers, etc).

However one of the original things is the factory swing away tire carrier - mounted on the rear door. As some of you know bigger tires create extra weight on the factory hinge and the rear door starts to sag.

So I am looking to get a true swing out spare tire carrier/mount - one that is mounted to the rear bumper. Where the rear bumper takes all the weight of the tire vs the rear door. The current aftermarket tube bumper does not have a factory option to add the swing out arm like some bumpers do.

So my questions are:

1. Any suggestions for a new bumper and swing out tire carrier ?
2. Who would you recommend for a local source ?

(I know that I can order a complete bumper and tire swing out arm from EBay/Amazon and put it on myself. From what I see prices are about $350-$450 on the low end. However if someone local charges a reasonable installation fee I'll just have them do the installation and get the part from them as well)

Regards,

Rob

What you describe was never available from the factory. The closest thing would be a factory CJ-7 swing away carrier, it does not touch the tailgate. If you want a monster tire on it, it won't work well, either.

For non-OEM parts, Quadratec has the best selection and prices.

This is what I am talking about and currently thinking of getting. $400 delivered seems like a good deal.

This is less expensive at $319 delivered. But the bumper does also not look as robust - with no step on it.

And finally what good is any post without pictures. So here are pics of my Jeep.

This morning after another hour or two spend reading about bumpers and swing out tire mounts/arms. I decided to break down and just order one. It can't be rocket science to install myself so that is the route I am going.

It is probably not Smittybilt, however it looks nearly identical to theirs.

Here is what I ordered (previously linked as well).

Now, anyone have an idea or suggestion how much I can sell the bumper currently on the Jeep for ?
