One of my sons retires from the USARMY in late October - 20 years, 7 days. He's been to the sand box as a driver, loader, gunner and TC on his Abrams (19K MOS). I'm looking for a retirement gift that will be something he will keep. Not a plaque, t-shirt, piece of paper. His older brother served around the same time though he was 11B - ground pounder and door kicker. His suggestion was an engraved 1911.
Nothing pimpish (as Patton would say) but clean and functional. The few places I've checked online are quoting anywhere from 8 weeks and up for delivery.
Any suggestions for where (other than the classifieds on here) to look for an appropriate 1911? Any local engravers?
Appreciate any pointers and leads.
