The Supreme Court on Tuesday accepted its first major Second Amendment case in a decade, a challenge to New York City regulations prohibiting most licensed handgun owners from taking their weapons outside their residences except to local shooting ranges and other designated locations.

The case, to be heard in the 2019-20 term that begins in October, offers gun-rights activists their first opportunity to expand the constitutional right to weapons beyond a pair of landmark decisions that, beginning in 2008, for the first time found the Second Amendment allows individuals to keep handguns in the home for self-defense.

Heck yeah !! This is an important first step to battling back NY liberal anti-gun laws...
It won’t put the lights out of the Nazi type anti gunners but maybe it will show them they cant dictate EVERYTHING a citizen can do with their second amendment rights....NY citizens deserve to be able to defend themselves everywhere respectively, not just at home.

the sky is falling, and it starts. they coming for em now

Naw, this is only NYC and actually a positive step towards gun rights in general. But I agree with Hayata, it will tell a lot about the opinions of the new judges that Trump appointed. And maybe Ginsberg is still out with her slip and fall, and cant weigh in.

Today's cert grant by the Supreme Court on the Second Amendment deals with a relatively minor law (NY's restrictions on transportation of firearms) but the ruling could be huge.

This the first Supreme Court case on the right to have a gun outside of the home -- a key issue that has so far been left unresolved by the Court. A broad ruling in the NY case could undermined longstanding laws on concealed carry.

For years, the Court could not find 4 votes to grant cert in a gun case. Many people suspected that Kennedy was hesitant to expand gun rights. He's since been replaced by Kavanaugh, who is likely much more eager to get the Court involved in reshaping US gun laws.

If the Court says there is a right to have guns outside of the home, it could lead to hundreds of thousands more people carrying guns on the streets of cities like LA, NY, Washington DC.

LA has only a few hundred civilians with concealed carry permits. If shall-issue permitting required by the Court, it is likely that LA will have around 300,000 permit holders within the foreseeable future. (About 3-5% of the population gets a permit in shall-issue states.)
