Supreme Court punts on major gun rights case

Heller was specifically about the gun control laws in DC. But because DC is a federal enclave, there was a question on whether states had to abide by it, or if it only applied to federal districts.

As you say, IL tried to argue that it didn't apply to them, and the McDonald case based in that state went up the food chain. SCOTUS ruled that it did apply to states as well, which is what really gave Heller its central role today.
Oh I see what your saying, I’d imagine only liberal states tried that argument. LOL

Kavanaugh stated that lower courts are not applying Heller and Macdonald properly in cases also. He states the SCOTUS has 4 ready made cases that could be argued soon.

*maybe we will see them take another case soon

Very true... I really think they are simply waiting to see how the election turns out. No need to schedule anything until they have an idea of he makeup they will dealing with on the court. Both wins and losses at this level have a huge effect. It's better to simply skip a case than have it go the wrong way.
