The late fee will be less expensive than the ticket. I was late getting mine done last year. I just knew I was going to run into a patrol car with a tag reader on the way to the tag office.

do not pass go, do not have to waste a day in court, do not go to jail.
yep its expired. do not wait to get it renewed. gwinnett has lots of them automatic tag readers, you'll end up getting busted for it. and you don't just get a ticket either. suspended or expired registration gets your car impounded. plus the possibility of some new jewelry and a stay at the county hotel. it would be much cheaper to take a few hours off work and get it done than to pay the fines and impound fees.
Bite the bullet and pay the extra fee to renew. You don't want to push your luck any longer.
I had mine impounded last year and got a "suspended or expired registration". $175 impound fee. $26x ticket fine.
what I did was had a ride that had a bad transmission and was sitting about 4 months while I set aside repair funds. not a daily driver so it wasn't that important. anyway, I canceled the insurance on it since it was sitting. fixed the car, put the insurance back on it, was drivin in Snellville and got hit with the auto tag reader.
I didn't think about them suspending the tag because I cancelled the insurance. but what was messed up about my situation is the tag expired during the time the car was sitting, so before driving it I did go to the tag office and pay the ad velorum and renewed the tag. they didn't bother to tell me it was suspended and there was a fee to reinstate it. just gave me the new sticker and sent me on my way. when I got pulled over because of the tag, the officer saw I had insurance, called to verify it with my provider, and saw the date of purchase for the tag was just 8 days prior to me being pulled over. me nor the officer(s) could understand why it was suspended. but the law was it was to be impounded and me receive the ticket. which he did. im good with that, because without him knowing I had insurance and him seeing I paid the tag renewal 8 days prior, he was taking me to jail. I was already cuffed and in the back. it was while we where waiting on the tow truck all the proof was shown. he and his supervisor decided not to arrest me.

Wow. They take you to jail now for a expired tag??
I can understand impounding a car for no insurance
But arresting and booking and jailing someone for a expired car tag is kinda nazi Germany

A buddy of mine got nabbed by a scanner for no ins
Somehow the computer said he tag was good (which it was ) but no ins, they blue lighted him. Wrote him a ticket and impounded the car
He called me , I was right around the corner , I went and picked him up
Cop was super pissed that he wouldn't leave the keys
And that I picked him up before the tow truck arrived
So was the tow company ( a very large one based in Smyrna) they dumped his car in their back 40 with 2 wheels off the ground dangling in a drainage ditch
I totally understand impounding the car for no ins
But reading the post it sounds like they impound the car for an expired tag??
And do they let illegal Mexicans off?
Since none of em have any ins DL or a tag
yeah man. they can impound for expired tag. its the same law/ticket for expired or suspended registration. I was told its one of the "officer's discretion" deals.
so update! went to the peachtree corners tag office today.....the one beside the loveshack 
.......... it was closed and im stupid but i called the tax office and they gave me my rin to renew online. they were super cool about it and my late fee was only $5 plus $1 fee for online. tag total was $26. Lady actually went out of her way to help me by actually requesting to talk to my fiancee since i was driving and having her write down all my info for me. right now my sticker still isnt correct but i have a confirmation in case i got pulled over to say im legal. works since i have to go to statesboro on wednesday and know if i were to get pulled over for it, it would be somewhere between the henry county weigh station and statesboro city hall lol.
