Wow that’s great thanks for the info.

I suppose with 175gr you don’t need to worry over the wind much?

Went to the Talladega marksmanship park today. They had a full rack of rack grade M1's for $650 each. However there is a one rifle per day per person limit.
Picked up a LEAD marked Winchester service grade. Took advantage of the free range coupon. Got to stretch her out to 600 yards. Had an absolute blast. If you have never been, you should plan a trip. Such an amazing facility.
Any advice on an organization I can easily join to qualify for the CMP program?

Yes Sir, the 175gr has better wind resistance and greater range. 155gr is more accurate 400 yds and closer. I did have some Creedmor .308 JHP 155gr that I bought at the range for comparison.

1. Because the bullet is lighter, the 155gr consistently shot higher than POA.
2. The wind certainly caused the 155gr to drift 4-5 inches from center. Meanwhile, the 175gr was POA/ POI.
3. Wind factor was greater on 155gr at each yard line.
4. 175gr held a better group at 600 yds. 155gr held a better group at 200 yds. Both were pretty even at 400yds.

My conclusion: If you plan on slinging rounds 400 yds and beyond, go with 175gr.

ANyone been to tmp if they have any rack grades left? - I want to go this weekend I have my paperwork in order - I tried calling the pro shop at TMP and they didn't answer or call back I wanted to see if they had any Rack grades left. The last Rack grade I bought was from the North store years ago when Greek Garands were around $300 and tins of Greek ammo were plentiful Why didn't I buy so many more ???

Here you go, inventory as of yesterday….”SA RG” is springfield armory rack grade”.

They won’t tell you over the phone. The website only tells you what’s available for mail order.
