the best handgun

I just threaten intruders with my wife. When they hear her and see me trying to give her away they tend to run.....Wife has one on her nightstand I have one on mine as well as the shotty in the bedframe holster. Redundancy.

The gun is secondary to ammo selection? Is it self firing ammo????

I'm pretty certain that the gun itself matters just a LOT more than the terminal ballistics. You can have the biggest caliber with gee-whiz-bang, uber-expanding, physics defying technology, but unless the gun will feed and fire it reliably it is useless. A gun with cast lead bullets, or even a reliable 22LR handgun would trump a trouble prone gun with the "right" ammo. Going bang every time, and having the ability to deliver multiple rounds is more important if you apply logical thought.

It's actually both. If the ammo has poor terminal ballistics it's not going to do it's primary job reliably, stop the threat immediately. However, you are correct that if the firearm does not function properly it does not matter what the ammo can do. The third element is the most overlooked and most critical. Ability of the shooter.

It doesn't matter if the weapon is a super whiz bag tricked out uber killer and the ammo is hot stuff mega energy physics defying elephant stoppers, if the shooter is incompetent, they might as well be throwing rocks. Way to often a person tries to composite for a lack of training with trick dog equipment.

There's 110% truth in your statements. It's a package involving ammo, gun, and the operator at the bare minimum. All too often, people talk of just needing X number of rounds to be effective, they're assuming perfect accuracy and a predefined scenario in those instances. I see people during our monthly matches, myself included, go straight stupid and lose most of the skills they have at the sound of a timer. If it was a life or death situation, I'm pretty sure it would be amplified even more for most people. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst!

Kahr CW9 for carry....best carry gun I've come across so far.

Right now my bedside gun is a Glock 19.....I may upgrade to a M&P 45 or a FNX-45 one day to get 10-15 rounds of .45ACP goodness.
