Well, I guess this answers that ol wise tale. When I use to drink, the only to drink whiskey was straight up.

Scotch or Irish whiskey to me is best with a few big ice cubes. Let them melt a minute or two and then it's perfect.

I prefer a large ice cube. A single large ice cube will not melt as fast and water down the drink.
When you drink the 16 year old single malts, tossing it down the hatch is really a waste.

I keep shot glasses in the freezer with small tumblers. That allows it a little chill and no ice, to water it down.

Agreed. Sometimes I put a glass with bourbon in the freezer for about 10-15 then drink it.
