The better Mopar street Engine

and the Hemi takes a lot more timing advance to make it run. If I was given the choice between the Hemi and the 6 pack, I would go with the Hemi, if not for any reason other than it is a Hemi. Either engine is going to give plenty of power and torque to move from one red light to the next with a smile on your face, even it it doesn't take full advantage of the horsepower available
Torque is what gets you there. HP is what keeps you there. 40 ft..lbs of usable torque down low is hard to overcome light to light. Hemi had to be in full track set up to even be a contender. For the quarter mile the Hemi is the way to go. On the street where the engine spends most of it time in the lower RPM range the 440 would pull it like a wagon. Top HP numbers don't even enter in to the equation. However, if you like the Hemi you like the Hemi can't argue with that!

Had a buddy that bought a 70’ Superbird 440 six pack when they first came out. That car is still the fastest ( top end ) that my ass has ever set in. I know there are faster cars out there now and probably were then I just have never ridden in one. His family owned Juhans produce in Lawrenceville in the 60’s -70’s.

Out in Texas and Oklahoma most of all those oil well pumps were powered by 413 max wedge motors. Can you imagine how many 413 max wedges are just sitting out in fields out there.
Lots were used in agriculture as well. There are several sitting in the junk pile at an old peach orchard here here I live

Mopar ain't no joke

All you who like the “six pack” haven’t ever tried to sync three carbs together to run worth a crap, have you ??
That is NOT A FUN combo to screw around with for street running !!
I know, I have been there !!
Yep. My recommendation in OP's choices would be the 440. The 426 is a straight up race engine. Great for track, but not around town. However I'd change one thing, I'd go with a single 4 barrel carb for just the reasons 41 said

Let me give another one, dual point distributor........
My distributor crapped out on my old 67 Plymouth belvedere. I put an Excel dual point distributor in it. I had the usual bolt on modifications but that car had a ghost in I outran everything that went up against me. I couldn't tell you how many six-packs of beer I won racing that car on the weekends.

Those mid-late '60's and early '70's Chrysler products were the fastest top-end cars I ever rode in.
Even some of the 4 barrel 383's with the automatic transmission would touch 150.
