The Fear Of Carrying Cocked And Locked

Yea, this is the other thing that has made me hesitant to make the switch to the P938. I've only carried Glocks except for the Kahr CM9 that I picked up a few months ago. I would need to do a LOT of dry drawing and range practice to get that muscle memory in place.

I won't lie to you. It's a commitment. I'll also tell you that as cool as they are the 1911 platform in my opinion is not a great fighting pistol. Do some close quarters handgun fighting drills and you'll realize very quickly that striker fired pistols have a huge advantage in that area. Having to manipulate thumb safeties, be sure you've got the grip safety compressed and being aware of a 2-3 lb trigger pull with 1 hand when trying to struggle with someone in close quarters is really an eye opener.

Having said that I will also say that if I had to take a shot at distance and it had to be dead on with no room for a miss I'd take a 1911 every time.

Great feedback! The price of the P938 vs the polymer carry guns was always a turn off to me. But, when PSA had that sweet Shot Show special on P938's a few weeks back, that really got me thinking about one.

I never really thought about it, but like others have said, the probability of a ND with a striker fired gun exist just as much when carelessness or circumstances line up...

But that hammer being back, LOL

Comparing the 1911-style pistol to the Glock-style pistol ("striker") is like comparing apples to oranges.

I've related this before, years ago an ex LEO that I know carried cocked and locked all the time. It seems that the hammer made a few people nervous who complained to his captain, LEO then changes to empty chamber carry to please the politically correct. he ended up breaking up a knife fight and having to face down two aggravated participants with his 1911, fortunately for him he got both on the ground and cuffed before his backup arrived. After the fact he realized that he had never worked the slide and had faced them down with an empty chamber. Needless to say he went back to Cocked an Locked. political correctness be d@@med

Carried a 1911A1 as an MP. They were junk, but they worked. Never been a fan though. I don't care for carrying any pistol that requires deactivation of a safety lever to fire (or carry cocked and locked). But I know how a lot of people are about polymer pistols. To each his own.

As for Glocks being excrement compared to a 1911, I guess that's true if you mean as boat anchors.
